Companies undergo a five-part evaluation process to identify the top companies for the Newsweek ranking. It begins with a pre-study survey of HR professionals to identify employee satisfaction drivers. It is followed by a main employee survey based on over 223,000 interviews and more than 1.5 million company reviews. This phase assesses employer familiarity and gathers responses on various diversity aspects. The third phase involves a rigorous desk research project, collecting over 21 diversity KPIs. The fourth phase consists of media monitoring to identify potential legal disputes related to workplace diversity. The final phase is the validation of these findings to calculate an individual company diversity score. The results were determined after surveying more than 1.4 million team members from businesses with workforces varying in size from 50 to more than 10,000. The list recognizes companies that put respect, caring, and appreciation for their team members at the center of their business model and, in doing so, have earned the loyalty and respect of the people who work for them.

UNCASVILLE, CT (September 10, 2019) – Senior Vice President of Sports & Entertainment for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), Tom Cantone, has been recognized in VenuesNow’s 2019 inaugural All-Stars list. This honor recognizes the 50 top executives who have made their mark in key areas of the entertainment industry and will continue to shape it in the coming years. It also celebrates venues and projects that have caught the industry’s attention in the last year, all as determined by VenuesNow’s editorial team. The criteria used by VenuesNow involves innovation, financial and critical success, leadership in the industry and a demonstrated commitment to excellence.

The 50 inaugural All-Stars are introduced in the magazine’s September issue and recognized at an exclusive reception that took place last evening in New York City. This event led into the third annual VenuesNow Conference, which will feature the important and relevant thought leaders, influencers and visionaries who help create positive disruption in the industry.

Cantone oversees the entertainment programming and strategies at all MGE domestic and international properties including Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, Mohegan Sun Pocono in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, ilani in Ridgefield, Washington, Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, Louisiana and recently, Fallsview Casino Resort & Casino Niagra in Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada. Cantone has led the entertainment team at Mohegan Sun’s flagship property in Connecticut since 2007 and has been integral in MGE’s rise as one of the largest producers of live entertainment. Mohegan Sun Arena alone is an internationally recognized venue, with 16 national awards in total including the 2019 ACM Award for “Arena of the Year.”

Prior to Mohegan Sun, Cantone held senior management marketing positions at Foxwoods Resort and Casino, Sands Hotel & Casino, Hershey Entertainment & Resort Co. and many more. He has more than three decades of experience in the casino entertainment industry, making a strong impact at every turn. Some of Cantone’s major Mohegan Sun Arena bookings include multiple show visits by Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and the late Prince.

Since its opening in 2001, the 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena has hosted major national recording artists including Bon Jovi, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood, The Eagles, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Kenny Chesney, Kid Rock, Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Van Halen and U2, just to name a few. In 2003, Mohegan Sun became the first non-NBA owner of a WNBA team with the acquisition of the Connecticut Sun. Also, Mohegan Sun is home to the professional lacrosse franchise, the New England Black Wolves, acquired in 2014. Mohegan Sun, which owns and operates the two facilities noted above, also manages Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Combined, the three properties employ over 10,000 workers.

In a joint statement, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman stated, “Mohegan Sun has always been a good neighbor and a strong partner to state government. That they are counted among the nation’s top employers is further reason to celebrate. We congratulate Chairman Brown and the Mohegan Tribe on this honor.”

Congressman Joe Courtney added, “With thousands of my Second District constituents employed at Mohegan Sun, I am well-aware of their reputation as a sought-after employer. I am pleased to see Mohegan Sun earning national recognition for their high rate of satisfaction among their eastern Connecticut employees.”

At the Connecticut property alone, over 11% of the workforce has been with the organization since opening day over 18 years ago. Additionally, roughly 75% of all employees holding leadership positions have been promoted from within. Mohegan Sun also boasts over an 80% retention rate year end and year out, far exceeding the national average for hospitality companies.

The results for this ranking were compiled from an independent survey conducted by Statista of American employees, one of the leading statistics companies on the Internet.

In addition to the Forbes announcement, Mohegan Sun was also honored on April 15th for the 2015 Steps to Success Award by Disabilities Matters for their partnership with Community Enterprise. Back in 2011, the two companies formed the Industry Specific Training and Placement Program – a ten week program including classroom and on-the-job training. Upon completion, participants could be hired for open positions within the company. To date, over 120 people have completed the program with a success rate of over 80%.
